He’s Out Of Touch….

December 4, 2008

T here’s something fundamentally wrong with political leaders who seem to forget that is we, the people who give them their employment..

Case in Point: Harry Reid, the senate majority leader….

The best that can be said about him is that he is pompous and arrogant.

Here’s why:

After spending more than a half a billion of OUR dollars to construct this new visitor’s center underneath the Capital building, it was Harry Reid who explained why the facility is so useful.

During the dedication ceremony, the insipid Senator from Nevada said the new center will be good for him because he’ll no longer “have to smell the tourists” who come into the Capital.

As you can read here, he admitted he was advised by his staff not to make the statement— but, like the self-important person that he is, he ignored their advice and blasted forth with his true thoughts on just what he thinks of the great unwashed who dare trod into “his building.”

The callousness of his remarks not withstanding—does he really believe he is so elite as to look with disdain on the rest of us who are not part of the elevated ruling class?

Before you look down your nose at us, Harry, Eye suggest you look out into New York harbor at a certain copper clad lady who stands watch there…

And Eye advise you to drop your gaze to the plaque on the lady’s base– which reads in part, “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

You see, Harry—this country was built by those smelly, huddled masses; the wretched homeless refuse who came here seeking to make something of themselves.

Millions did—and will continue to do so.

It was the labor of the great unwashed who built “your building” and the visitor’s center (which opened years late and millions over budget)…

It is the tax money your grab from the common folk that provides you with your cozy lifestyle.

And it is their votes, one-by-one—they give YOU that allows you to occupy a seat in that building.

So, here’s a bit of advice for you, “Sir” Harry.

Next time, as you a hold your nose, hold your tongue too.

WE, the people put you there. And WE the people can take you out.
